2009 - 2010 Projects Print

2009  Riverland West Local action Planning Association Incorporated will be funded by the SAMDBNRM in 2009-2010  for one staff to deliver the following works:

 

  • To ensure all regional natural resource management organizations assist local communities, including Indigenous, landcare and coastcare groups over the next two years to access knowledge and skills in managing natural resources, including: – providing easily accessible, free information to groups and individuals – providing training opportunities to local groups (45% of funding).
  • To increase the recruitment and retention of volunteers in community groups involved in managing natural resources, over the next two years, in particular youth (40% of funding).
  • To increase the opportunities for short-term members or visitors to contribute to and partake in the protection and management of natural resources (5% of funding).
  • To develop at least 20 Indigenous partnerships over two years that engage Indigenous communities in delivering Caring for our Country (5% of funding).
  • To reduce the impact and spread of Weeds of National Significance over the next two years. Priority will be given to collaborative activities that address outliers, containment lines, and strategic management of core infestations where appropriate (5% of funding).

 

 
2008 - 2009 Projects Print

Hart Structure
Designs for inlet structure upgrade for flow management and for fish gates reinstallation was required. RWLAP staff contacted contractors to do initial quote. The proposal was considered by RWLAP staff and NRM Board and design was received.

Wetland Monitoring

Regular monitoring of wetlands in the RWLAP region were organised and undertaken by staff Tasks undertaken included:

  • Work out times and dates of monitoring days with board staff.
  • Send out monitoring event reminders to community.
  • Confirm attendee numbers for the days by email and phone.
  • Help with monitoring day to measure ground water, surface water quant vegetation, photo points and tree health.
  • Convey any findings from the monitoring to the groups.


RWLAP Revegetation at Waikerie and Cadell

Two landowners were assisted in revegetation works Tasks undertaken by RWLAP staff and these sites included:

  • Survey of Fauna present before works begin.
  • Seed to be collected from local province.
  • Seed processed and prepared for planting.


Capacity Building for Riverland West Local Action Planning Inc (RWLAP)

  • RWLAP staff continues to build capacity to undertake Natural Resource Management tasks in the local community by undertaking the following duties.
  • Support LAP committee.
  • Write and distribute minutes.
  • Confirm meeting place and attendees.
  • Monitoring dates organised.
  • Attendees confirmed by phone/email.
  • Start times organised.
  • Monitoring days attended and technical knowledge supplied.
  • Attend Youth Council meetings as mentor.
  • Work on revegetation projects with WPS YET team and RPS.
  • Two Quarterly newsletters Summer & Autumn.
  • Write up Regent Parrot fact sheet.
  • Hold workshop at council nursery.
  • Receive results from YET team and analyse.
  • Present info to committee board and council.
  • Website needs minutes pictures, committee name changes and some links removed/added.


Hart Lagoon
Finalising the expenditure of a Envirofund grant for works to rehabilitate Hart lagoons wetland and floodplain Tasks undertaken included supporting dedicated volunteers in revegetation works, planning and designing signage, and bird hide development plus weed control works.

Brenda Park
Water has been allowed back into the previously dry wetland to enable scientists  to study the interactions between  aquatic  animals and plant lifecycles  on  inundation of  wetlands The effects on water quality  by this interaction will  also be accessed.

Regent Parrot Project
Ongoing monitoring of the  numbers of breeding pairs using nesting sites at Hogwash bend  was undertaken and also noting preferred food source plants being utilised by nesting females adjacent to nesting sites.
