Nigra Middle Structure upgrade
Install large rocks to disperse outflow from structure to reduce/prevent erosion and baffle flow to assist fish as they work their way upstream.

Golf Club Water Re-use
Redirection of  Waikerie’s effluent water from the sewage ponds near the Hart Lagoon This water is to be used to water the Golf Course  Storm water will be directed into the disused  and cleaned  sewage ponds to be used to water the Waikerie Oval and old caravan park.

Regent Parrot

Monitor numbers of breeding pairs using nesting sites at Hogwash bend and also noting preferred food source plants being utilised by nesting females adjacent to nesting sites.

Council Nursery
In conjunction with Loxton Waikerie Council and Riverland West Local Action Planning volunteers establish, maintain and operate a nursery to propagate and grow sufficient plants to be able to supply all of the Waikerie community groups needs for native plants at minimal cost.

Stormwater Project

Reconfigure and reconstruct disused sewage ponds at Hart Lagoon to appear and operate more like a natural wetland. This new series of wetland ponds will clean stormwater as it passes through the system  These reconfigured ponds should then also  attract more local native wildlife to inhabit this area.

Hart Lagoon

As part of a larger Envirofund Project to protect and rehabilitate the Hart Lagoon perma-pine posts will be installed as bollards. This will keep vehicles out of the wetlands giving local native plants a chance to regenerate In total over 2000 post were installed creating a 4 km barrier.

Drying of Wetlands

Wetlands in the Riverland West region have been temporarily closed of from the river. This has been done due to recent drought condition s in an effort to reduce water loss due to evaporation.

Capacity Building
Riverland West Local Action Planning (RWLAP) staff continues to build the capacity of the community to undertake on ground works by sourcing funding plus supporting the LAP committee. Also by organising and attending wetland monitoring days and supplying technical knowledge supplied. Staff worked on revegetation projects with Waikerie and Ramco Primary Schools and the local Youth Environment Team. Additionally, throughout the year, RWLAP staff produced quarterly newsletters and continued to monitor and enhance habitat for Regent Parrots.

Biodiversity and Habitat Restoration
The focus of work was to establish corridors of native vegetation linking the remnant vegetation in the mallee to the river Also on National tree day students from Waikerie Primary school planted trees at the new truck stop on the highway.

Wetland and Floodplain Rehabilitation
Work involved for this project in 2006-07 included 6 weekly ground water monitoring, 3 monthly water and vegetation monitoring plus monitoring and managing structures restricting water from entering wetlands . Tasks involved included the clearing of the Murbpook inlet channel and the construction of clay bank to assist in the drying of Hart lagoon.
