Nigra Middle Structure upgrade Install large rocks to disperse outflow from structure to reduce/prevent erosion and baffle flow to assist fish as they work their way upstream. Golf Club Water Re-use Redirection of Waikerie’s effluent water from the sewage ponds near the Hart Lagoon This water is to be used to water the Golf Course Storm water will be directed into the disused and cleaned sewage ponds to be used to water the Waikerie Oval and old caravan park. Regent Parrot Monitor numbers of breeding pairs using nesting sites at Hogwash bend and also noting preferred food source plants being utilised by nesting females adjacent to nesting sites. Council Nursery In conjunction with Loxton Waikerie Council and Riverland West Local Action Planning volunteers establish, maintain and operate a nursery to propagate and grow sufficient plants to be able to supply all of the Waikerie community groups needs for native plants at minimal cost. Stormwater Project Reconfigure and reconstruct disused sewage ponds at Hart Lagoon to appear and operate more like a natural wetland. This new series of wetland ponds will clean stormwater as it passes through the system These reconfigured ponds should then also attract more local native wildlife to inhabit this area. Hart Lagoon As part of a larger Envirofund Project to protect and rehabilitate the Hart Lagoon perma-pine posts will be installed as bollards. This will keep vehicles out of the wetlands giving local native plants a chance to regenerate In total over 2000 post were installed creating a 4 km barrier. Drying of Wetlands Wetlands in the Riverland West region have been temporarily closed of from the river. This has been done due to recent drought condition s in an effort to reduce water loss due to evaporation.
